Bandersnatch Releases Retro Game Connected To Interactive Film

0

The new Netflix interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is fairly popular, and the creators decided to play up the meta-elements by introducing viewers to some of the featured games. Gamers can now download and play one of those titles — a retro game for a less-than-popular system from back in the 1980s.
The Verge is reporting that Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has a meta web portal featuring some of the games that the fictional company Tuckersoft has created. The timeline apparently takes place in the 1980s, so the games that the company has made are for the systems back during that era, which includes games like Bandersnatch, a first-person vector game where you attempt to navigate a deadly maze, or Rolling Road, where you attempt to ride a bike as fast as possible while going absolutely nowhere. One of the games featured in the show, Nohzdyve, is currently available to download from over on the Tuckersoft website. (Fun fact: The title Nohzdyve is a nod to the Black Mirror Season 3 episode called “Nosedive.”)
As pointed out on The Verge, the games are made for the ZX Spectrum, so in order to play the games you’ll need to download a ZX Spectrum emulator, which is available for free on just about any major emulation website. Once you get your hands on the emulator, you can then play Nohzdyve by downloading the ZX Spectrum rom from the Tucksersoft website. Now be warned, not every link to the Tuckersoft website will actually take you to the right web portal to download the game.
Some of the links will take you to a page that has a bunch of fake Tuckersoft games like Metl Hedd and Roachbusters, or Terror on Rannoch B, but you won’t be able to play those other games. There’s another web portal for the site (even though the HTML is exactly the same as the other portal) that actually contains Nohzdyve, which is on a page where the game Bandersnatch has been cancelled.
I’m not sure why there two different versions of the exact same website, but just keep that mind in case you were trying to get Nohzdyve but it doesn’t appear on the site.
The video game tie-in for the show seems to match up with the fact that one of the show’s actual co-creators used to be a video game reviewer way back in the day. So in a way it makes sense that there would be some throwback to his old days of reviewing classic games.
The show Black Mirror is basically a modern day Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits. The horror anthology’s latest outing, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, is set within a world featuring the fictional Tuckersoft video game company. There’s a choose-your-own-adventure element to the show as it follows the developers as they attempt to become the “Motown of Gaming.”
Gamers have the ability to test out Nohzdyve, which is one of the fictional games featured in the show. In the game, you attempt to collect eyeballs as you fall through the sky, and try to avoid buildings and other digitized hazards trying to get in your way.
You can grab the free ZX Spectrum ROM right now from over on the website right now.
